Dual Degrees

MBA/JD Degree Program

The Master of Business Administration/Juris Doctor is a combined degree program sponsored by the School of Law and the School of Business. This program is particularly appropriate for individuals wishing to enter corporate law and tax careers.

An individual may begin study in either school, but will spend at least one full year studying in the School of Business. Two full years are spent in the School of Law. During the fourth year, students enroll in courses offered by either School. Normal completion time is four years of full-time study, which saves the individual one full year of study.

Application and acceptance to both the School of Law and the School of Business are required.

MBA/Master of International Management (MIM) Degree Program

A two-year program, with one year at UConn and one year at the EM Lyon in France, that permits the student to earn the MBA degree at UConn and the Master’s in Management from EM Lyon. Courses at EM Lyon are taught in French, as the students take courses with the EM Lyon students. The year in France also includes a three to four month internship with a major French or multinational company.

MBA/MA International Studies Degree Program

This dual degree program is for students interested in management in multi-national organizations. The Dual MBA/MA program consists of 72 credits of coursework distributed between Business Administration and International Studies. MA students must also demonstrate proficiency sufficient for ordinary conversation and to carry on research in at least one language in addition to English.

The MA degree in International studies is available with concentrations in Latin American Studies, African Studies, and in European Studies. Admission to the MBA and MA degree programs must be pursued separately.

MBA/MS Nursing Degree Program

This dual degree program is designed to prepare individuals for managerial careers in the field of Nursing. In earning the combined degrees, individuals can reduce the total number of credits required for the combined degrees, because the School of Business accepts 15 credits from the School of Nursing. Candidates must apply to both the School of Business and the School of Nursing.

MBA/MSW Degree Program

The joint Master of Social Work and Master of Business Administration program is designed to prepare individuals for managerial careers in social work in both the private and the public sectors. By pursuing the degrees concurrently, individuals can reduce the total number of credits required for the combined degrees. The School of Business accepts 15 credits from the School of Social Work.

Candidates must apply to both the School of Business and the School of Social Work.

MBA/MD Degree Program

Rapid changes in the health care industry as well as the increasing size and complexity of health care organizations have created a demand for physicians who also are effective managers. The Doctor of Medicine program is offered at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Usually, students complete the first two years of study in the School of Medicine, enroll in the full time MBA program in Storrs for the third year, and then return to the Health Center to take electives in both the School of Medicine and the MBA program in Hartford. MD/MBA students are required to complete 42 credits in the MBA program.

MBA/Ph.D. (in Biomedical Science)

The combined Ph.D. in Biomedical Science/MBA. program is designed to provide selected Ph.D. students with a thorough grounding in contemporary business by blending and balancing technical rigor, management theory, practical application and individualized concentrations. The Ph.D. in Biomedical Science program is offered at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington. Combined degree students may take their graduate business courses at the MBA programs offered in Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury or Storrs.

Combined degree students must fully immerse themselves for at least 30 credits of continuous coursework in each program during which time they are not taking didactic courses in the other school. Combined Ph.D. in Biomedical Science/MBA students must be admitted to the Ph.D. in Biomedical Science program AND to the MBA program. Admission to one school does not guarantee admission to the other schools. Admission to both programs need not be simultaneous. Both the GRE and the GMAT are required of all combined Ph.D. in Biomedical Science/MBA students.
