MIS Summer Internship Program

Guidelines for completing your Internship


1. Summer Registration

After you are sure where you'll be interning, contact us to register for the 6 credit OPIM 4891 internship. Check Timelines (above) for getting permission numbers. Registration is mandatory if you obtained the position through our program.

Obtain a PeopleSoft permission number from Prof. Bhattacharjee before registration in OPIM 4891. You can register online through Peoplesoft. This is listed as a Summer Session 4 course, for 6 credits.

2. Information Sheet

Use the Online Internship Info Submission function of this web site as soon as you have all the information.

3. Site Visit

A site visit will be scheduled by Professor Bhattacharjee and your supervisor for some day in June/July/August.

4. Written Report: due on first day of classes of Fall semester. You can submit either a hard copy or email it.

The report (15-page long) should be a detailed account of your internship activities covering at least the following topics:

• Background of the company, lines of business, size, market, etc.

• Background of your division, department, objectives, functional areas, etc.

• Detailed description of the information system(s) you were involved with: hardware, software, people, objectives, support, etc.

• The importance of the information system / technology to the company

• Detailed description of your activities within the system, department, company. We recommend that you keep a diary of these.

• Your own assessment, conclusions about the internship experience, the system and activities you were involved with, suggestions, critique, etc.

5. Evaluation Form: will be filled online by your supervisor in August.

6. Presentation / Seminar: will be scheduled during the first 2 weeks of the Fall semester.
